Linezolid is an antibacterial drug, available in the form of a tablet, oral liquid, and injection. Linezolid comes in the group of oxazolidinones. Oxazolidinones come in a new group of antibiotics. The drug is active against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive bacteria. Linezolid is given to patients having pneumonia and skin infections. It prevents the enhancement of bacteria. However, it may be noted that Linezolid, like antibiotics, works for bacterial infections and not viral infections and therefore, is not prescribed for the symptoms of flu, cold and viral infections. It is specifically administered for serious infections like pneumonia which comes under the category of serious lung infection. It is beneficial in serious infections that are not treatable by the use of other antibiotics. When given for a shorter period, it is a safe antibiotic. This antibiotic can be given to patients irrespective of their age.

Indications

Administration Of Dose
The dose depends upon the condition of the patient and in children weight and age has to be taken into consideration while deciding the dose by your medical practitioner. It can be administered after every 12 hours or 08 hours.Broadly speaking, the safe dose of Linezolid is 600 mg BD in adults for 28 days. However, medicine has to be continued even if there are no symptoms of infection, and stopping this medicine before the prescribed duration may bring back the infection. The recommended dose for adults of Linezolid 600 mg is twice daily. Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days.
Side Effects of Linezolid 600mg Tablets
Linezolid is well tolerated and has very few side effects on the chemistry of blood & hematology. Few patients may experience muscle weakness, headache, diarrhea, rash, and nausea. Talk to your specialists for further advice.
Precautions
Linezolid should not be administered for the treatment of infections caused by catheters. Linezolid may affect the bone marrow. The blood test must be carried out every week and in the case, the patient develops suppression in bone marrow, treatment may be discontinued. Patients on antidepressants should avoid taking Linezolid. This drug may not be taken simultaneously with antidepressants like fluoxetine, amitriptyline paroxetine, nortriptyline, or bupropion, and avoid taking painkillers like methadone, tramadol, and meperidine. It has also been contraindicated with medication like cyclobenzaprine, and mirtazapine which may cause high serotonin levels, and ultimately symptoms may develop like confusion, high blood pressure, problems of acidity, and death.
